Arquette, Anker and Carey are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending April 13. Oregon State junior infielder Avi Arquette was named National Hitter of the Week, while Fresno State junior right-handed pitcher Jack Anker and Michigan freshman right-handed pitcher Tate Carey were named National Co-Pitchers of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Arquette led the Beavers to a 4-0 record, defeating Portland during the midweek before sweeping Cal State Fullerton on the road to close the week. He hit 9-of-18 from the plate, scored seven runs, drove in 11 runs, had a 1.277 slugging percentage and finished with two doubles, four home runs and four walks.

Arquette recorded multiple hits in three of the four games, including four in the opener versus Portland, equaling a season-high. He hit home runs in three of the four games, including two at Portland at the home of the Single-A Hillsboro Hops. The Kailua, Hawai’I native was a triple short of the cycle against the Pilots.

He drove in a career-high six runs in the 10-6 win over Portland and tallied at least one extra-base hit in every game. He scored seven runs on the week, including three against Portland and two versus Cal State Fullerton in the second game of the series. He also drove in Oregon State’s first runs on a three-run home run in the series finale against Cal State Fullerton, which ended in a sweep.

Anker started in Friday's win over San Diego State and pitched a career-high eight innings. He struck out 16 batters, the second-most by a single pitcher in a single game in 2025.

The Tulare, California, native, did not allow a single run, allowed only two hits and only walked one batter on just 102 pitches.

Carey pitched 12 scoreless innings across two outings and picked up two wins. He threw a seven-inning no-hitter against Akron, the first by a Michigan pitcher since 1994. The Windsor, Ontario native struck out 11 across the two games and held opponents to a .081 batting average -- allowing just six base runners across the two games.
