DALLAS (NCBWA) – A no-hitter and a three-homer game captured the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III honors for the week of March 31-April 6 with one player winning two awards on the same week for the first time in the history of the awards.
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Massachusetts Institute of Technology freshman outfielder John Spivey became the first player to capture both the Hitter of the Week and the Rookie of the Week award since the first rookie of the week was handed out in 2018. Spivey hit .692 while slugging 1.769 to help his team to three victories including a decision over the 24th-ranked team in the nation. The St. Louis, Mo. native scored nine times and drove home 12 runs. Spivey doubled twice and homered on four occasions. Spivey homered three times and drove home eight in a Friday win over WPI.
Honorable Mention Hitter: Zack Chadwell, Jr., DH, Bridgewater (Virginia) homered in each of his team’s four games and hit .461 while knocking home 13 runs. The four homers put his season total into double digits with 10. Chadwell also scored eight times.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Albion College (Michigan) lefty Cole Giesige tossed an eight-inning no-hitter on Friday. During the game of zeroes, the Ottawa Lake, Mich. native struck out eight while allowing just one walk.
Honorable Mention Pitcher: Linfield University (Washington) sophomore Jake Swenson set a program record by recording 17 strikeouts in a nine-inning complete game. The righty threw 110 pitches and allowed just two hits while walking one.
