DALLAS (NCBWA) – A .619 averaged with 15 RBIs over six games, and a pair of no-hitters captured the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III honors for the week of March 10-16.
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Anderson University (Indiana) senior catcher Brendan Tabor hit safely in six games, amassing a 1.381 slugging percentage while driving home 15 runs and accounting for 25 total runs. Tabor hit .691 with five homers, belting three over a four-game set with Alma. The New Palestine, Ind. native finished 13-for-21 at the plate with four multi-hit performances including a trio of contests with three. Tabor also crossed the plate on 10 occasions. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week homered twice in the second game of a doubleheader on March 15 and knocked in five with a two-run homer on March 12, also in the second game of a doubleheader. Tabor was also selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.
Honorable Mention Hitter: Colin Jones, Jr., C, LaGrange College (Georgia) played just three games but had a field day during those contests, racking up 15 RBIs and eight runs scored. Jones hit .556 while belting five homers and helping LaGrange open the Collegiate Conference of the South conference schedule with a sweep.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
William Paterson University (New Jersey) sophomore hurler Robert Nathan threw one of a pair of no-hitters around the nation last week. Nathan earned his second win of the season by tossing a no-hitter against Framingham State, striking out eight over seven innings to tie a career best.
Honorable Mention Pitcher: Noah Lewis, Fr., Hampden-Sydney College (Virginia) posted the third highest strikeout total in NCAA Division III this season by punching out 15 to earn his first collegiate win. The Crew, Va. native struck out the side twice and posted 12 strikeouts of the swinging variety in the nine-inning effort. Additionally, Lewis logged two scoreless and hitless innings in relief with three more strikeouts to total 18 over the course of the week.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Eureka College (Illinois) starter Ethan McDonald was near unhittable over two starts. The Mannford, Okla. resident struck out 16 batters over seven innings in a no-hitter against Maranatha Baptist. McDonald added 5.2 innings in his second outing and fanned four to finish with 20 strikeouts in 12.2 innings of work.
