McCool, Dougan are NCBWA Division II National Players of the Week

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its first NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the 2025 season and the week ending on February 9, 2025. Lubbock Christian (Texas) senior infielder Brevin McCool, is the National Hitter of the Week and Pittsburg State (Kan.) graduate Kolby Dougan is the National Pitcher of the Week.

McCool (Hobbs, N.M. / Hobbs HS) went 10-for-16 with five home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI to lead the Chaps to a four-game road sweep of Sul Ross State. McCool scored 13 runs, walked four times – twice intentionally in the same game – was hit by a pitch and did not strike out. He had a pair of two-homer games and one with a long ball and two doubles. In the opener, McCool was a triple short of the cycle and drove in six runs.

Dougan (Topeka, Kan. / Kansas) earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week for the second-straight week.  Dougan fired a complete-game one-hitter and tied a school record with 16 strikeouts to lead Pittsburg State to a 12-0 victory over Truman State last Saturday (Feb. 8). The Topeka native came one strike away from a no-hitter before the Bulldogs broke up the no-hit bid. Dougan bounced back to record his 16th and final strikeout three pitches later to end the game. He allowed just one walk and posted a .045 batting average to the 22 batters he faced in the game. Dougan is now 2-0 on the season with a 0.75 ERA. He’s given up just three hits and three walks while striking out 28 batters in 12.0 innings pitched.
