WINGATE, N.C. (NCBWA) – The first in-season NCBWA national poll was released Wednesday afternoon, with defending champion University of Tampa remaining the number one team in the country. The Spartans have started off the 2025 season 5-1 after going 52-8 last year. Tampa has now been the number one team in each of the last 17 NCBWA top 25 polls.
2023 national champion and 2024 runner-up Angelo State remains at number two in this week’s poll, collecting one first-place vote. 2022 national champion North Greenville is number three, picking up the other three first-place votes. 2021 national runner-up Central Missouri remains fourth, with UIndy moving up one spot, checking in at number five this week.
Point Loma checks in at number six this week, while Missouri Southern jumped up four spots from #11 to seventh. IUP, Colorado Mesa and Southern New Hampshire round out the top 10. Mount Olive jumped 11 spots, up to number 11 this week, while Florida Southern went from unranked to #12.
UT Tyler is also new to the poll, checking in at #17 after not receiving votes in the preseason poll. Lee and Arkansas-Monticello join the rankings after receiving votes last week, while Lenoir-Rhyne is #25 this week, after not receiving a vote in the preseason poll.
The NCBWA Region polls will be announced every Monday throughout the season, while national polls will come out every Wednesday.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing contests.
