(NCBWA) - The NCAA Division III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association have selected McMurry University third baseman Derek David (Sr., Richmond, Texas/Richmond/Western Texas Junior College) as the 2008 NCBWA Division III Position Player of the Year and Christopher Newport University's Kenny Moreland (Sr., Springfield, Va./Lee) as the NCBWA Division III Pitcher of the Year.
David, who collected seven-of-eight first-place votes was named American Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year and the American Southwest Conference West Division Hitter of the Year with a .432 batting average, 79 runs scored, 11 doubles, 26 home runs, 73 RBI, an .879 slugging percentage, a .506 on-base percentage and eight-of-nine stolen bases.
Moreland, with five first-place votes, was named D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Year, American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-America, ABCA South Region Pitcher of the Year and USA South Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year with a 13-0 record, a 1.97 earned run average, 1.30 walks per nine innings and 9.53 strikeouts per nine innings. Opponents batted .198 against him.
