DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Player of the Week awards for the period ending Feb. 20. St. Mary's (Texas) junior first baseman Tyler Migl is the National Hitter of the Week while North Alabama senior right-hander Trey Mitchell is the National Pitcher of the Week.
Migl helped lead the Rattlers to an 8-3 start. He leads the Heartland Conference with a .528 batting average. He has tallied 19 hits in his first 11 games, and has registered a slugging percentage of .944 and an on-base percentage of .595, which are both tops in the conference. Over half of his hits have gone for extra bases this season. He has at least one hit in 10 of 11 games.
Mitchell helped lead the Lions to an 9-1 record. He went a perfect 3-0 on the mound with a 1.23 ERA. Mitchell had three complete games (one shutout), allowing just nine hits and striking out 22 batters in 22.0 innings of work. Opposing teams are hitting a meager .123 against the Florence, Ala. native.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
