DALLAS (FWAA) – William & Mary cornerback B.W. Webb has been named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National
Defensive Player of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept.
a 5-11, 160-pound redshirt freshman from Newport News, Va.,
intercepted three passes and returned one 50 yards for a
touchdown late in the fourth quarter that sealed the Tribe's
26-14 upset victory at Virginia. William & Mary caused seven
turnovers and held the Cavaliers scoreless in the second half.
William & Mary is an NCAA Division I Championship Subdivision
school which played against a Bowl Subdivision school. The FWAA
will consider players from the Championship Division, if they
are playing "up" against a higher division team. Webb
is the first player from a Championship Subdivision school to
win this weekly honor since its inception in the 2001 season.
Webb will be added to the 2009 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch
List. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be presented to the best defensive
player in college football on Dec. 7 by the FWAA and the Charlotte
Touchdown Club at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C. Five finalists
for the Nagurski Trophy will be announced on Nov. 18 or 19.
Each week during the 2009 season the FWAA All-America Committee
will select a national defensive player of the week from nominations
made by the 11 Division I Bowl Subdivision Conferences and major
