USBWA PRESENTS 2017-18 WOMEN'S HONORS
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced the winners of its three major women's awards Friday at the site of this weekend's Final Four. All three winners hail from the Southeastern Conference. A'ja Wilson of South Carolina is the winner of the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award as the National Player of the Year. Vic Schaefer of Mississippi State earned the National Coach of the Year Award, and Chennedy Carter of Texas A&M is the National Freshman of the Year, based on voting by the USBWA membership. USBWA representative Mel Greenberg made the presentations.
VILLANOVA'S BRUNSON WINS 2017-18 OSCAR ROBERTSON TROPHY
Villanova junior guard Jalen Brunson has been named the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy as the National Player of the Year in voting by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
VIRGINIA'S BENNETT WINS 2017-18 HENRY IBA COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD
Virginia coach Tony Bennett, who has guided the Cavaliers to a 28-2 overall regular-season record that includes an ACC-record 17-1 conference mark, has been named the winner of the Henry Iba Award, given annually by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association to the national coach of the year. The Cavaliers added a 29th win today in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal vs. Louisville.
USBWA NAMES 2017-18 MEN'S ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has released its 2017-18 Men's All-District Teams, based on voting from its national membership of 900-plus. The USBWA has selected All-District Teams since the 1956-57 season, its founding year.
