John Feinstein was a gifted storyteller because of how much he loved the telling, whether his words were shared over dinner the night before a big game or in the Washington Post the morning after.
He was a prolific author and authoritative voice on multiple sports because of how much he cared about the people that played and coached them. Over more than four decades, John’s work was a dominant presence in the USBWA Best Writing Contest. As a board member and officer he was a relentless advocate for the access to tell those stories. He was a voice of encouragement for apprehensive young reporters who dreamed of being just like him. He was fiercely loyal to the craft and, most important and endearing, his legion of friends.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association mourns his passing with all of them.
