INDIANAPOLIS (USBWA) – Antonio Redding of Delaware Valley University (Doylestown, Pa.) and Lexy Harris of Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.) were named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Players of the Week for the period ending February 23.
Redding, a 6-0 junior guard from Orlando, Fla., had a career week in helping Delaware Valley record a pair of victories. He scored a career-high 47 points (14-of-20 FG, 11-of-12 FT, 8-of-10 3FG) in the Aggies’ 78-72 win at Stevens on Wednesday. He also added four assists and a steal without a turnover while playing the full 40 minutes. Then, in a 75-72 victory over DeSales on Saturday, Redding scored 26 points (8-of-12 FG, 6-of-6 FT, 4-of-6 3FG), including four clinching free throws in the final 12 seconds, while adding three rebounds and a steal. For the week, he averaged 36.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals while shooting 68.8 percent (22-of-32) from the field, 94.4 percent (17-of-18) from the foul line and 75.0 percent (12-of-16) from behind the arc. For his efforts, Redding was also selected the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Player of the Week.
Harris, a 6-3 sophomore center from Marietta, Ga., recorded a pair of double-doubles in helping to lead Washington University in St. Louis to a pair of victories last week. She finished with 25 points (9-of-12 FG, 7-of-9 FT), 11 rebounds, an assist, and a block in the Bears’ 80-64 victory over Rochester on Friday. Then, on Sunday, Harris scored 23 of her 33 points (14-of-25 FG, 5-of-6 FT) in the second half to help her team overcome a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Emory, 83-66. She added 10 rebounds, two assists and a steal in the contest. For the week, Harris averaged 29.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks while shooting 62.2 percent (23-of-37) from the field and 80.0 percent (12-of-15) from the foul line. For her efforts, Harris was also chosen the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week.
Each Tuesday, the USBWA has selected men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the 10th season that the USBWA has recognized national players of the week from Division III. This week's selections are the final selections for the 2024-25 season.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
