INDIANAPOLIS (USBWA) – Felix Kloman of Babson College (Babson Park, Mass.) and Zoe Tomlinson of Colorado College (Colorado Springs, Colo.) were named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Players of the Week for the period ending January 5.
Kloman, a 6-5 senior guard from Ipswich, Mass., helped lead Babson College (RV, D3hoops.com) to three victories last week, including two against ranked, undefeated opponents. In the Beavers’ 73-59 win over Case Western Reserve on December 29, Kloman totaled 22 points (9-of-15 FG, 4-of-8 3FG), four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. The next day, against then-No. 6 host Wooster, he finished with 16 points (5-of-11 FG, 5-of-7 FT, 1-of-5 3FG), three rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks in a 69-61 victory. Then, on Saturday against then-No. 3 Trinity (Conn.), Kloman scored 19 points (6-of-15 FG, 6-of-7 FT, 1-of-7 3FG), grabbed five rebounds, dished out a career-high seven assists, and recorded a block in the 99-89 double-overtime victory. For the week, he averaged 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.7 blocks while shooting 48.7 percent (20-of-41) from the field, 78.5 percent (11-of-14) from the foul line, and 30.0 percent (6-of-20) from three-point range. For his efforts, Kloman was selected MVP of Wooster’s E.M. “Mose” Hole Classic and was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week.
Tomlinson, a 6-2 senior center from New York, N.Y., posted double-doubles in all three games as No. 24/25 (WBCA/D3hoops.com) Colorado College won all three. In a 74-45 victory over Susquehanna on December 28, Tomlinson finished with 26 points (10-of-18 FG, 6-of-9 FT), 18 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks. Two days later, she totaled 24 points (6-of-8 FG, 12-of-13 FT), 18 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks in a 76-61 win against SUNY New Paltz. Tomlinson culminated her outstanding week with 15 points (3-of-14 FG, 9-of 14 FT), 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks in a 54-40 win over St. Thomas (Texas). For the week, she averaged 21.7 points, 16.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.7 blocks while shooting 47.5 percent (19-of-40) from the field and 75.0 percent (27-of-36) from the foul line. For her efforts, Tomlinson, currently tied for fourth in NCAA Division III with 14.1 rebounds per game, was selected to the D3hoops Classic All-Tournament Team and named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Player of the Week.
Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the 10th season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers.
