The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its first NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the 2025 season and the week ending on February 16, 2025. Florida Southern graduate outfielder Ahmad Fitts, is the National Hitter of the Week and Lubbock Christian (Texas) senior lefty Ryan Markwardt is the National Pitcher of the Week. 

For the first time since the 2024 preseason national poll, there is a new number one in this week’s top 25 poll, with 2022 national champion North Greenville taking the top spot.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending February 16. Wake Forest junior shortstop Marek Houston was named National Hitter of the Week, while UNCW sophomore right-handed pitcher Connor Marshburn was named National Pitcher of the Week.

The Texas A&M Aggies (3-0) hold down the top spot for the second week in succession, while defending NCAA champion Tennessee remains second among the top-25 teams.

Liberty’s Ryan Bomberger, one of the most experienced and top baseball publicity directors at the college level in the nation, is the 49th recipient of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Russell D. Anderson/Wilbur Snypp Award for national contributions to college baseball.

Seventy-six players have been named to the initial 2025 Watch List for the 20th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced Wednesday. The institution or conference sports information directors submitted nominees.

The first in-season NCBWA national poll was released Wednesday afternoon, with defending champion University of Tampa remaining the number one team in the country. The Spartans have started off the 2025 season 5-1 after going 52-8 last year. Tampa has now been the number one team in each of the last 17 NCBWA top 25 polls.

The 2024 national champion University of Tampa Spartans are the top-ranked team in the preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) Division II top 25 poll. The Spartans went 52-8 last season, which included a 4-0 record in Cary, N.C. at the national championships to capture the ninth national title in program history. Tampa received all 20 first-place votes in the preseason poll.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has established a new award honoring student-athletes who are active in service and volunteerism in their communities and will honor nine finalists as part of a Tony Gwynn Community 9 Team in May 2025. A winner selected from the nine finalists will be dubbed the Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy honoree and announced during the Men’s College World Series in June.

Todd Helton, the 1995 Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear recipient, has another feather in his already-extensive baseball cap. Helton was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame last week in Cooperstown, New York, as the first Howser Trophy winner and first Tennessee alumnus to be recognized with this high baseball honor.

Texas A&M reliever Evan Aschenbeck has been announced as the 2024 Stopper of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Friday. Aschenbeck is the fourth player from the Southeastern Conference to earn this prestigious honor, joining Georgia’s Joshua Fields (2008), Florida’s Michael Byrne (2018) and Arkansas’ Kevin Kopps (2021). 

In the midst of the best season in program history, Kentucky head coach Nick Mingione has been named the 2024 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Mike Martin National Coach of the Year.

Georgia 3B-1B-OF Charlie Condon, who produced one of the top hitting performances in Southeastern Conference history this season, is the 37th recipient of the 2024 Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear.
