DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 22nd year with its 2019 weekly surveys and after the first weekend of the regular season, LSU takes over at No. 1, followed by Vanderbilt at No. 2 and UCLA at No. 3.
After a weekend series sweep of Air Force, LSU jumps up one spot to take the top place in this weeks poll. The preseason No. 1 selection of Vanderbilt drops back to No. 2 after going 2-1 on the weekend at the MLB4 Collegiate Baseball Tournament. UCLA is up one spot and rounds out the top three this week after sweeping St. John·s over the weekend.
Georgia makes a jump into the top 10 this week, coming up two spots after a 3-0 weekend against Dayton to sit at No. 10.
Overall, the top 10 consists of four SEC schools, three Pac-12 programs, one ACC school and one Big 12 program.
The biggest risers this week were Coastal Carolina, TCU and East Carolina, all jumping up three spots to No. 19, No. 18 and No. 11, respectively.
The 2019 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. After a preseason Top 40 listing, the remainder of the polls feature a national Top 30 beginning with the Feb. 18 NCBWA DI survey.
The current survey has had representation by 12 different conferences among the 299 baseball-playing schools in the 2019 NCAA Division I ranks. The rankings of 2018 had 15 different DI conferences rated at least one week. For more information or to join the NCBWA, please go to ncbwa.com.
