DELTA STATE TOPS NCBWA DIVISION II POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) Delta State became the first team this season to reign atop the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Top 25 in consecutive weeks. The Statesmen picked up 16 of a possible 20 first place votes to hold steady at No. 1 this week despite picking up their first two losses of the 2019 campaign.


Seven other teams remained in the top 10 this week, including Colorado Mesa who inched up to No. 2, as well as undefeated Illinois Springfield who picked up a trio of first place votes on the way to nestling into the No. 3 position.


Seven new teams appear in the national poll, including Quincy (No. 13), Azusa Pacific (No. 14), Colorado School of Mines (No. 16), Angelo State (No. 24) and Carson-Newman (No. 25) who all received votes last week.


USC Aiken jumped into the poll at No. 12 after registering a three-game series sweep of then-No. 15 Georgia College over the weekend, while West Florida stormed into the poll at No. 17 after a weekend sweep of then-No. 20 Mississippi College. It is the first top 25 appearance in two seasons for the Pacers who finished No. 15 in the final poll of the 2017 season.


Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing contests.
