DELTA STATE TOPS NCBWA DIVISION II POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) One of five undefeated teams still standing in all of NCAA Division II baseball, Delta State became the third different team in as many polls to sit in the top spot of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Top 25 on Tuesday.


The Statesmen ran their record to a perfect 10-0 after capturing their series opener with Union on Sunday at Dave Boo· Ferriss Field. Tuesday·s release marked the first No. 1 ranking for Delta State in the NCBWA Top 25 since claiming the top spot in the 2018 preseason poll. It is the first time the Statesmen have been ranked No. 1 during the regular season since the final ranking of the 2013 campaign.


Five new teams entered the poll this week, including Nova Southeastern and North Greenville who reentered the listing after a one-week hiatus. Wilmington is back in the NCBWA Top 25 for the first time since the final poll in 2014, Cal Poly Pomona makes its first appearance since the 2017 preseason ranking and Missouri Southern is back among the nations top 25 for the first time since grabbing a No. 19 ranking in mid-March of last season.


Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing contests.
