DALLAS (NCBWA) Florida State junior catcher Cal Raleigh has been named the National Player of the Month and Stetson junior right-hander Logan Gilbert tabbed the National Pitcher of the Month, as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced its May award winners on Wednesday.
A native of Cullowhee, N.C., Raleigh hit .452 (28-for-62) in May, with eight doubles, six homers and 18 RBI, owning a .871 slugging and a .534 on-base percentage. Raleigh, a third-round pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 2018 MLB Draft, hit .326 (75-for-230) with 18 doubles, one triple, 13 homers and 54 RBI in 2018 for the Seminoles. He added a .583 slugging and a .447 on-base percentage and threw out 13 would-be basestealers.
Gilbert, the 14th pick in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Mariners, is the two-time Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Year. He went 3-0 in his three starts in May, with a 1.70 ERA and one complete game, working 21.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and four walks, striking out 34. Gilbert has posted an 11-1 record with a 2.52 ERA in 15 starts in 2018, working 107 innings and allowing just 65 hits and 23 walks, striking out a NCAA leading 157. Stetson won its first NCAA Regional in program history over the weekend and travel to face North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Super Regional, starting on Friday.
