NCBWA NAMES DIVISION IINATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its weekly NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the period ending March 25th. Nova Southeastern senior outfielder Areo Regoli is the National Hitter of the Week while Southern New Hampshire junior lefthander Tim Flight is the National Pitcher of the Week.


Areo Regoli (Homestead, Fla.) batted .562 with eight runs and 10 RBI to lead the Sharks to a 4-1 weekly mark, including a conference series win over Eckerd. Posting a .600 OBP, Regoli hit safely in each game and tallied multiple hits in three. He amassed a 1.500 slugging percentage with five home runs. In a 9-8 series finale win that clinched the series versus Eckerd, Regoli was a perfect 3-for-3 with two homers to help bring the Sharks back from a five-run deficit. He was also 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts in the contest. In four outings, Regoli did not commit an error in the field.


Tim Flight (Portsmouth, R.I.) struck out a career-high 18 batters in a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over Saint Anselm on Thursday night. He struck out the side in the first and fourth innings and allowed just one walk. For the season, Flight is a perfect 4-0 with a 0.44 ERA. He has struck out 49 batters in 41.1 innings of work.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
