DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continued its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 12th year with its 2011 weekly surveys. This season's polls have been circulated from Feb. 21-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb. This is the final poll of the year and '11 after South Carolina of the Southeastern Conference won back-to-back NCAA baseball championships on June 28 by sweeping Florida in the title round.
The poll voters come from 40 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. The final poll has representation by 11 different conferences among the 300 baseball-playing schools in the 2011 NCAA Division I ranks, and five different schools have held down the No. 1 position. There have been 17 separate leagues among the Top 30 in the 11 poll, and six different schools - TCU, UCLA, Florida, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and South Carolina · held down the No. 1 position in the NCBWA surveys.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors the Pro-Line Athletic Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing contests.
