McMurray's David, Christopher Newport's Moreland honored by association
NCBWA NAMES 2008 DIVISION
III PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

KENOSHA, Wis. (NCBWA) - The NCAA Division III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association have selected McMurry University third baseman Derek David (Sr., Richmond, Texas/Richmond/Western Texas Junior College) as the 2008 NCBWA Division III Position Player of the Year and Christopher Newport University's Kenny Moreland (Sr., Springfield, Va./Lee) as the NCBWA Division III Pitcher of the Year.

David, who collected seven-of-eight first-place votes was named American Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year and the American Southwest Conference West Division Hitter of the Year with a .432 batting average, 79 runs scored, 11 doubles, 26 home runs, 73 RBI, an .879 slugging percentage, a .506 on-base percentage and eight-of-nine stolen bases.

Moreland, with five first-place votes, was named D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Year, American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-America, ABCA South Region Pitcher of the Year and USA South Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year with a 13-0 record, a 1.97 earned run average, 1.30 walks per nine innings and 9.53 strikeouts per nine innings. Opponents batted .198 against him.

Regional Position Players of the Year

New England: Chris Burleson, SS, Southern Maine (Jr., Portland, Maine [Deering])
Named American Baseball Coaches Association third-team All-America, the Little East Conference Player of the Year with a .383 batting average, 63 runs scored, 10 doubles, five triples, nine home runs, 50 RBI, a .633 slugging percentage, a .491 on-base percentage and 19-of-23 stolen bases.

New York: Shane Wolf, Utility, Ithaca (Sr., Freeville, N.Y. [Lansing])
Named D3baseball.com first-team All-America, American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-New York Region and first-team All-Empire 8 Conference with a .321 batting average, 39 runs scored, 10 doubles, three home runs, 31 RBI, a .438 slugging percentage, a .396 slugging percentage and seven-of-seven stolen bases as a pitcher, compiled a 10-1 record with a 2.80 earned run average, 1.40 walks per nine innings and 9.55 strikeouts per nine innings opponents batted .251 against him.

Mid-Atlantic: Dale Curry, C, Alvernia (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa. [Father Judge])
Named American Baseball Coaches Association second-team All-America, D3baseball.com third-team All-America and the President's Athletic Conference Player of the Year with a .424 batting average, 49 runs scored, 20 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 64 RBI, a .775 slugging percentage, a .494 on-base percentage and two-of-three stolen bases.

South: Trae Bailey, SS, Christopher Newport (Jr., Chesapeake, Va. [Great Bridge])
Named second-team All-America by both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com, ABCA South Region Player of the Year and USA South Athletic Conference Player of the Year with a .427 batting average, 53 runs scored, 21 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 62 RBI, a .772 slugging percentage, a .508 on-base percentage and eight-of-eight stolen base.

Mideast: Brian Moran, OF, Grove City (Sr., Columbia, Md. [Chapelgate Christian])
Named first-team All-America by both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com with a .454 batting average, 45 runs scored, nine doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 50 RBI, a .769 slugging percentage, a .559 on-base percentage and 34-of-37 stolen bases.

Central: Brian Kolb, SS, Wheaton (Ill.) (So., Carlsbad, Calif. [Sante Fe Christian])
Named American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-America, ABCA first-team All-Central Region and College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Year with an NCAA Division III-leading batting average of .527, 45 runs scored, 19 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 52 RBI, an .808 slugging percentage, a .559 on-base percentage and 25-of-25 stolen bases.

Midwest: Doug Coe, C, Wisconsin-Stevens Point (Sr., Appleton, Wis. [North])
Named American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-America, D3baseball.com second-team All-America and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Position Player of the Year with a .438 batting average, 51 runs scored, 12 doubles, 15 home runs, 59 RBI, an .810 slugging percentage and a .542 on-base percentage.

West: Derek David, 3B, McMurry (Sr., Richmond, Texas [Richmond/Western Texas JC])

New York: Joe Zongol, P, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Sr., Flower Mound, Texas [Southington, Conn. HS])
Named Debaseball.com second-team all-America, American Baseball Coaches Association second-team All-New York region and the Liberty League's Pitcher of the Year with a 9-2 record, a 1.99 earned run average, 3.14 walks per nine innings and 8.58 strikeouts per nine innings opponents batted .210 against him.

Mid-Atlantic: Ryan Kulik, P, Rowan (Sr., Marlton, N.J.)
Named American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-America, D3baseball.com third-team All-America and the New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year with an 8-2 record, a 1.77 earned run average, 2.29 walks per nine innings and 13.74 strikeouts per nine innings opponents batted .181 against him.

Named D3baseball.com honorable mention All-America, ABCA first-team All-Central Region and the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Pitcher of the Year with a 6-1 record, a 1.82 earned run average, 1.82 walks per nine innings and 8.95 strikeouts per nine innings opponents batted .205 against him.

Midwest: Lonnie Robinson, P, St. Thomas (Minn.) (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. [Osseo])
Named American Baseball Coaches Association second-team All-America and first-team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 8-1 record, a 2.94 earned run average, 1.82 walks per nine innings and 9.80 strikeouts per nine innings opponents batted .212 against him.

West: Wayde Kitchens, P, Chapman (Jr., Oceanside, Calif. [Vista])
Named American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-America with an 8-0 record with a 0.69 earned run average, 4.15 walks per nine innings and 9.00 strikeouts per nine inning opponents batted .150 against him.
