NCBWA NAMES DIV. III PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

DALLAS (NCBWA) Alvernia College third baseman Zach Lutz (Jr., Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) has been named 2007 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division III Position Player of the Year, while Devin Drag from Chapman University (Sr., Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Mary Star of the Sea) was named NCBWA NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year.


Lutz was named D3baseball.com Player of the Year, ABCA second-team All-America and the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Year with a .467 batting average, 49 runs scored, 15 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 58 RBI, a .553 on-base percentage, an .883 slugging percentage and 10-of-10 stolen bases.


Drag was named ABCA first-team All-America and D3baseball.com first-team All-America with a 16-0 record with two saves, a 2.41 ERA, 7.60 strikeouts/nine innings and 2.56 walks/nine innings. Opponents batted .267 against him, and he was the winning pitcher in an 8-4 decision over Marietta in the first round of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
