TEXAS STAYS ATOP NCBWA POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with
its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through
June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.


The Texas Longhorns opened the season with a three-game sweep
at San Diego State, outscoring the Aztecs, 29-8, to keep the top spot. The
Longhorns host Texas-Pan American in their home opener on Wednesday. Miami,
off to its first 4-0 start since 1994, moved up two spots to No. 2. The
'Canes host South Florida in a three-game set this weekend as Miami plays
an early-season schedule that features 20 of its first 24 games at Mark
Light Field.


There are no new entries in the poll this week, so the SEC continues
to pace all conferences with eight ranked teams. The ACC with new member
Miami · boasts six. The Big 12 and Pac-10 each have four teams in the Top
35.


Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college
baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of
the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates
and official votes in the Xanthus Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of
the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors the Pro-Line
Cap Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication
and writing contests.
