NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) Shortstop Steve Gebhart of Central College
(Pella, Iowa) and hurlers Greg Reinhard of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
and Drew Shamrock of Denison University (Granville, Ohio) have been
named the 2005 NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week and Co-Pitchers
of the Week
for April 11-17 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association.


Gebhart, a senior from Des Moines, Iowa, hit .600 (9-15) with five home
runs, a double, a 1.667 slugging pct., 12 RBI and nine runs scored in four
games during the week. He hit four home runs, drove in nine runs and scored
seven times in a doubleheader sweep of Coe. In the 15-10 opener, he went
2-4 with a home run, three RBI and three doubles. He tied a school record
with three home runs in his 5-5 performance in the nightcap, a 16-5 victory.
He drove in six runs and scored four times. He went 1-3 and scored once
in both games of a doubleheader sweep of Simpson. In the first game, a 4-3
Dutch win, he hit a home run and drove in three. He was Iowa Conference
Player of the Week.


Reinhard, a junior from Marinette, Wisc., set a Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference record with 19 strikeouts on April 17 in Wisconsin-Whitewaters
6-3 10-inning win against Wisconsin-Stout. His 19 strikeouts breaks the
old mark of 18 established by Wisconsin-La Crosse·s Dave Benedict on May
22, 1950, against Winona State (Minn.). He also broke the school record
of 15 set by Kelly Mulroy against Wisconsin-Platteville on May 1, 1999.
He struck out 11 of 15 batters between the fifth and ninth innings and pitched
all 10 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and no walks. He also
tossed four innings against Wisconsin-Platteville on April 14 and allowed
just two hits and no runs, while striking out four batters. He was WIAC
Pitcher of the Week.


Shamrock, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, fired his first career no-hitter
in last week's series-opening 8-0 win against Wabash. Shamrock struck out
10 batters and walked only two in his dominating performance. On Thursday
against Otterbein, Shamrock pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out
two batters to help Denison to the 10-9 win, earning his first career save
in the process. He is 4-2 on the year and has struck out 49 batters in 41.0
innings pitched. He was North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
