NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's
Chuck Brehm, who slugged grand slam home runs in back-to-back games,
and Villa Julie College's Garrett Sanders, who included a no-hitter
in his two wins, have been named the 2005 NCAA Division III National
Hitter of the Week and Pitcher of the Week
for April 4-10 by the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.


Brehm, a junior left fielder from Spencer, Wisc., hit .520 (13-25), belting
four doubles and four home runs, to help extend the Pointers' winning streak
to 10 games. He scored 11 runs, had 16 runs batted in, and accumulated a
slugging percentage of 1.160. He went 4-5 in Saturday's second game against
UW-Platteville, totaling seven RBIs, a double and two home runs, including
a seventh-inning grand slam. He matched his feat in the second game on Sunday,
hitting another grand slam in the fourth. He was the Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.


Sanders, a sophomore from Caesar Rodney, Del., threw the first no-hitter
in Villa Julie history, defeating SUNY-Purchase 6-0. It was also the first
no-hitter in the newly-formed Northeastern Athletic Conference. With his
hard fastball and devastating split finger, he finished the day throwing
7 innings with 13 strikeouts and 1 walk. He also defeated Penn State-Burks
earlier in the week. Overall, he was 2-0 in 13 innings, allowing 7 hits
and one earned run for an ERA of 0.69, with 16 K's and four walks. For the
season, he is 5-2 with a 4.10 ERA, 3 complete games, and 38 K's over 41.2
innings.
