NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ATLANTA (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
(NCBWA) released its Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week
awards for the period ending April 4.

Ian Hauze of DeSales University (Pa.) was named National Hitter
of the Week, while Scott Hyde of George Fox University (Ore.) was
named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA reviews candidates from Division
III conferences each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the
season.

Hauze hit .636 (14-for-22) with a 1.273 slugging percentage in five games.
He had 13 runs scored, four home runs and 11 RBIs. Hauze went 3-for-5 with
two home runs and six RBIs in a 14-1 win over Alvernia (Pa.). For the week,
Hauze had four three-hit games and had at least two hits in all five games.
The junior shortstop also was selected Hitter of the Week by the Freedom
Conference.

Hyde threw the third no-hitter in George Fox history to beat Pacific
(Ore.) 6-0, facing the minimum 27 hitters. The only baserunner was a hit
batsman leading off the fifth, who was picked off on the next pitch. Hyde,
a junior righthander, fanned 14 batters in the game, seven in the first
three innings, with at least one strikeout in every inning. He ended the
game with a swinging strikeout and a caught-looking strikeout on the last
two hitters. Hyde has 297 career strikeouts, 12 short of 15th place on the
all-time Division III career list. He also was selected Pitcher of the Week
by the Northwest Conference.

Honorable Mention: Jeff Natale, Trinity (Conn.), Will Renner,
Coe (Iowa) (Hitter); Joel Barickman, North Central (Ill.), Ted Serro, Franklin
& Marshall (Pa.) (Pitcher)
