TEXAS TECH IS TOSTITOS FIESTABOWL NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (FWAA) Pulling off an upset of the nation·s third-ranked team to end the nation's longest home winning streak earned the Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-2) the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Oct. 22.

Seth Doege threw for 441 yards and connected with Alex Torres on three of his four touchdown passes as the Red Raiders raced to a 31-7 lead on their way to the 41-38 win in a game that was delayed by weather at the start for 94 minutes.

Oklahoma's 39-game home winning streak dated back to 2005 season opener and its home loss was just the third under Bob Stoops (75-3) in his 13 seasons in Norman.

"We wanted to show everybody what kind of team we really do have. Were a resilient team," Torres said after the game. "We have a lot of fight in us. We knew what kind of challenge we were up against but we knew exactly what we needed to do."

Other Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week nominees for the weekend of Oct. 22 included:

Michigan State (6-1): Keith Nichol caught a   desperation 44-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins on the   game's final play to give the Spartans a 37-31 home win over   previously undefeated Wisconsin. Nichol, who snagged the   ball off a deflection at the 1-yard line and then fought to   the goal line, was initially ruled down short of the end   zone, but the replay official overturned the call to give   the Spartans the win.

The Football Writers Association of America has named a national team of the week since the 2002 season. This is the seventh season that the award has been sponsored by the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Members of the FWAA All-America Committee decide the weekly honor. Each remaining Monday during the 2011 college football regular season, the FWAA will name the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week.

Founded in 1971, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl has hosted seven games that have decided the college football national championship, including four Bowl Championship Series title games. This season, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will be played on Jan. 2, 2012, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., and the Insight Bowl will be played on Dec. 30, 2011, at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
